What Our Clients Say

  • “The magic of House Whisperer is making every facet of your space YOUR space.”

It was supposed to be a simple consultation for a possible bathroom remodel.

Next thing we knew, we not only had a vision for the bathroom, but a custom backyard dining space as well - an area of dead space we thought was pointless to try to do anything with.  Well, that “dead space” ended up being a built in vacation destination for dining all year round.

Fast forward 8 years and 4 more major projects - every single one being a complete lifestyle game changer, thanks to Dean and Tina.

A lot of people think of “design” as just color for walls, styles of cabinetry, light fixtures … etc.

And while that’s all important, the magic of House Whisperer is making every facet of your space YOUR space.  We don’t feel like we’re living in someone else’s story anymore, but rather taking the lead in our own.

As long as Dean and Tina are doing what they do, we’ll never start a project without our first call being to them.

  • “It felt like an excavation. Like they were helping us find something that was already there.”

Dean and Tina have a gift for translating who you are into how you live — and then into spaces that feel like they could never have belonged to anyone else. Our remodel is a 1942 residence being transformed into a mid-century modern with Southwest influence. From the beginning Dean and Tina understood the aesthetic instinctively. It felt like an excavation. Like they were helping us find something that was already there.

Their eye for proportion and flow is exceptional. They know how a ceiling detail reads from across a room, how a finish transitions between spaces, how outdoor and interior living connect in the New Mexico climate. The front and back patio designs alone reflect a level of care that most designers reserve for interior spaces.

They're also excellent listeners. The vision evolved over many conversations, video calls, and an on-site visit from their base in California. They held all of it — adjusting, refining, never losing the thread of what the project was actually about. For anyone doing serious design work in New Mexico, particularly work that needs to honor the regional vernacular without becoming a caricature of it, Dean and Tina are the real thing.

  • “The perfect solution for my husband to live at home and enjoy our days together.”

A few years ago, my husband became permanently disabled due to a traumatic brain injury.  I struggled to find a way to bring him home to live with me and to accommodate 24/7 caregivers. A friend suggested that I consider having an ADU built instead of trying to find another house that would work.

I asked The House Whisperer to design an ADU for me and what they designed was everything I could possibly want for my husband. And they didn't just design it, they stayed involved at every step of the way — helping me choose a contractor and find the right features for a wheelchair bound person.

They made themselves available throughout the buildout and helped the contractor and me make decisions on many aspects of the build. To this day, there is not one thing that I wish we had done differently, The Casita was the perfect solution that made it possible for my husband to live at home and for us to enjoy our days together. I cannot stress enough how easy it was to work with Dean and Tina and how collaborative and accommodating they were to my every need.

  • "Acutely aware that not every family has deep pockets.”

My wife and I were starting with no real fixed style and a floor plan that never made sense.

Dean and Tina walked every inch of the space, and asked all the right questions. They wanted to understand how we actually lived before putting a single line on paper.

What they delivered was a complete transformation. They listened to everything we wanted and then brought something extra — an instinct for what would add a layer of style we might not have found on our own.

They’re also acutely aware that not every family has deep pockets, and are careful never to over-build for the house, the budget, or the neighborhood. That kind of integrity is rare in the design world and it is something my wife and I genuinely appreciated throughout the entire process.

They treat your home like it’s their home too, and will not stop until it’s right. I would not use anyone else.

  • "Designers extraordinaire, spatial wizards, and part-time relationship therapists.”

When my wife and I decided to embark on a major remodel, we knew we needed talented designers. What we didn’t realize was that we also needed marriage counselors.

Enter Dean and Tina—designers extraordinaire, spatial wizards, and part-time relationship therapists. They took on the massive task of redesigning five major zones in our house, and the results are nothing short of spectacular.

Beyond their obvious talent, their superpower was navigating the battle of ideas between my wife and me. They would listen to us bicker, smile calmly, and somehow create a third option that combined both of our visions into something better than either of us had imagined. They saved our house, and quite possibly, our marriage!

If you want a team that delivers flawless design, meticulous attention to detail, and can gracefully settle your domestic design disputes, look no further than Dean and Tina. We cannot recommend them highly enough!

Meet

Dean &Tina

Dean is a Custom Home Designer and General Contractor who spent his career learning houses from the inside out — literally. While searching for his own approach to design, he rose up through the trades as a carpenter, crew foreman, and project manager for some of the most stunning properties in Southern California. When awarded his first design commission, the artist took the wheel — and the rest is history.

What makes Dean different from others in his field is that rare combination of true artist and master builder living in the same person. He was branded "the House Whisperer" because it seems like houses speak to him when they are silent to others — with an uncanny ability to find the extraordinary hiding inside the ordinary.

For more than a decade Dean has brought his insight, warmth, and playful wit to tens of thousands of homeowners each week through HOME, his weekly live radio broadcast and podcast for iHeart Media on KFI in Los Angeles and KOGO in San Diego. Now he and Tina are bringing it all to YouTube — with more depth, more visual storytelling, and the design expertise your home truly deserves.

"As a bit of an orphaned soul, I love helping people find their way home. What was never part of that plan was media. But Tina and I do love an adventure, and after seeing how many more people we can help we’re now committed to keep sharing for as long as anyone wants to listen."

Tina is a Custom Home Designer, Fine Artist, and alumna of the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena — one of the most rigorous and respected design schools in the world. She is a member of the American Society of Interior Designers, a Graphic Designer, Art Director, and co-founder and co-owner of The House Whisperer.

Tina and Dean collaborate on every aspect of every project, but where Dean tends to work from the architecture inward, Tina works from the interiors out. She has a passion for creating environments that simultaneously stir and soothe the soul. A master of color, form, and texture—she infuses every motif with layers of beauty grounded in simplicity.

"Tina could teach a master class in elevating a simple life to an art form. Her undeniable authenticity, kindness, and tenacity immediately endear her to our clients. I'm constantly in awe of her art and trust her instincts more than anyone's, including my own." — Dean

Tina serves as creative partner, co-host, "she who keeps the trains running on time," and Interior Design Director of The House Whisperer.

"Every space in a home is an opportunity to create art that real people live real lives inside of. There's nothing more satisfying than to see our clients' lives change as they inhabit those spaces."
