The front yard was converted from tons of concrete to a perfect Tuscan style courtyard. It’s now lush and full of flowers and layered greenery, and the wall fountain attracts tons of birds. The way Dean envisioned our house was the way it always should have been but wasn't until he "saw" it. The design was one of elimination — eliminating concrete and adding symmetry, warmth and greenery. It changes the whole experience of coming into our home and matches the style and spirit of our house. 

Dean and Tina also did a total redesign of our backyard and made it "fit" the house beautifully. It is one of our favorite places to be. Our pool and yard was a beige desert with no color and tons of sandy stamped concrete. They helped us see a fresh design with bright vibrant blues, and the addition of beautiful waterfalls from the spa to the pool take your eyes up to a massive rose arch — a key focal point of the whole yard. We eliminated palms and made a mediterranean oasis — a true extension of the style and personality of the house. We absolutely LOVE it! We can't say enough wonderful things about Tina and Dean, the experience of working with them on multiple projects, their honesty, integrity, and vision. We absolutely love our home.

Over the years I’ve renovated very old homes as an avid weekend DIY’er and faithful student of The House Whisperer program. But when I had the opportunity to purchase the historic Camp House — a 1903 Greene and Greene— it was in so in much disrepair I knew I was going to need some serious design help and was fortunate enough to engage the The Whisperers themselves to help me update this beautiful piece of history responsibly and historically accurately. 

I knew they were resourceful and talented, but the degree of talent they poured into my project blew my mind. 

Dean started by studying Sierra Madre at the turn of the twentieth century, and where the Greene brothers were in their design thinking at the time the house was created. The house had some regretful “updates” but Dean and Tina brought it back to its roots and carefully forward into the present. New electrical, plumbing and HVAC, and a new fire resistant roof — all blending in so discreetly that no one ever knew they were there.

It was an honor and a pleasure to restore this beautiful work of art. And it was awe inspiring, meaningful, and fun to work alongside Dean and Tina in whispering this dream into reality.

The Camp House is now museum quality and every-day livable.

We bought a mid-fifties farmhouse on an avocado & lemon ranch in the Camarillo hills above the Pacific with my son and his family. Our allotted portion was the old two bedroom “house” that the ranch manger and his family had lived in for decades. To say it was run down, worn out, and a complete mess is putting it mildly. The style, the cheap construction, the layout; everything was wrong. 

We had listened to The House Whisperer for years, and when Dean mentioned for the first time that they did private consults we thought we might be able to use some of that “design matters” magic sprinkled all over this place. Lord knows it needed it.

Dean and Tina made changes to the floor plan, flipped the bedrooms to take advantage of views, changed the front door location, squeezed in a much needed mudroom with a stacking washer-dryer and put some big beautiful breathtaking sliding glass doors to overlook the farm with the ocean and islands in the distance. What a difference design can make. 

Everyone absolutely raves about its flow and feel. Recently our grandson had a nine-year-old friend over who literally stopped in his tracks and said “Whoa, I didn’t expect it to look like this inside; this is REALLY nice!” We agree, and design really does matter most.

What differentiates the House Whisperers from other designers? We’ve had many construction projects over the years. Before Dean and Tina, no one has ever asked questions like: What’s your favorite room in the house? Do you like to entertain? We had a favorite piece of furniture — a dining room table — that was too big for the room. Dean suggested we swap rooms. Dean and Tina have a gift for translating who you are into how you live — and then into spaces that feel like they could never have belonged to anyone else. Our remodel is a 1942 residence being transformed into a mid-century modern with Southwest influence. From the beginning Dean and Tina understood the aesthetic instinctively. It felt like an excavation. Like they were helping us find something that was already there.

Their eye for proportion and flow is exceptional. They know how a ceiling detail reads from across a room, how a finish transitions between spaces, how outdoor and interior living connect in the New Mexico climate. The front and back patio designs alone reflect a level of care that most designers reserve for interior spaces.

They're also excellent listeners. The vision evolved over many conversations, video calls, and an on-site visit from their base in California. They held all of it — adjusting, refining, never losing the thread of what the project was actually about.

A few years ago, my husband became permanently disabled due to a traumatic brain injury.  I struggled to find a way to bring him home to live with me and to accommodate 24/7 caregivers. A friend suggested that I consider having an ADU built instead of trying to find another house that would work. I asked The House Whisperer to design an ADU for me and what they designed was everything I could possibly want for my husband. And they didn't just design it, they stayed involved at every step of the way — helping me choose a contractor and find the right features for a wheelchair bound person. They made themselves available throughout the buildout and helped the contractor and me make decisions on many aspects of the build. To this day, there is not one thing that I wish we had done differently, The Casita was the perfect solution that made it possible for my husband to live at home and for us to enjoy our days together. I cannot stress enough how easy it was to work with Dean and Tina and how collaborative and accommodating they were to my every need.
